I realized I hate flowers.

These flowers sit on my desk
and they are beautiful.
All they must do is sit.
Their beauty is fleeting and desperate
their vibrant petals yearn for my attention.
They wait for me to water them
To care for them

But I don’t care.
I let them wither.

What do they want from me?
I can only do so much.
They were given to me dead
Taken from their home.
Their roots and all things ugly chopped off.
Where are they from?
They sit in the darkness of my room in the winter.
Were these flowers going to see spring?
They've died for the cause of love
And yet, I don’t want them.

THE TRADITIONAL ACT OF GIVING FLOWERS HAS BEEN TAINTED, LIKE MANY THINGS, BY OVERCONSUMPTION

I FELT A SIMILAR FEELING AGAIN, WALKING TO CLASS IN THE RAIN AS I PASSED HUNDREDS OF WORMS CRUSHED INTO THE PAVEMENT.
I CURSED THE PAVEMENT, WHOEVER MADE THE WALKWAY, MY PEERS, EVEN THE WORMS.
ALTHOUGH WE COULD WALK AROUND THEM, WE WERE EITHER UNAWARE OR DIDN'T CARE ENOUGH TO INCONVENIENCE OURSELVES MINORLY.
OUR CARELESSNESS RESULTS IN EXCESS LOSS THAT IS HARDLY ACKNOWLEDGED NOR ATONED FOR.
THIS IMAGE DEPICTS A MARITAL UNION BETWEEN A HUMAN AND A SUNFLOWER MEANT TO BRING PEACE BETWEEN THE KINGDOM OF MAN AND THE KINGDOM OF NATURE.
THE HUMAN ASKS FOR FORGIVENESS AND PEACE WHILE VOWING TO NO LONGER MURDER CARELESSLY.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND AWARENESS OF OUR PART IN OVERCONSUMPTION AND THE EFFECT ON SPECIES AROUND US IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS ATONEMENT.  IT IS WELL PAST TIME WE ACKNOWLEDGE OUR CRUELTY AND TAKE STEPS TOWARDS RIGHTING IT.
